Chapter 9

PageSpeed

Set up the Google API key, choose the URLs to test and track performance history per installation.

Overview

The Google PageSpeed Insights add-on gives you scheduled bulk tests, historical data per installation and CSV export for client reports. It uses the official Google PageSpeed Insights API.

Prerequisite: Google API key

You need a free Google Cloud API key with the PageSpeed Insights API enabled. Steps:

  1. Go to console.cloud.google.com
  2. Create a project (or reuse an existing one)
  3. Enable the PageSpeed Insights API
  4. Create an API key under Credentials
  5. Paste the key into Webshop-Radar → Settings → PageSpeed

Quotas. Google's free tier is generous (~25 000 requests per day). Even large agencies rarely hit the limit.

URL selection

For each installation, choose which URLs to test:

  • Homepage — usually the highest-traffic page
  • Category pages — best-selling categories
  • Product pages — top-selling products
  • Custom URLs — checkout, landing pages, etc.

Schedule

Bulk tests run weekly by default. You can override the schedule per installation (daily for high-priority stores, biweekly for low-priority).

Metrics tracked

  • Core Web Vitals: LCP (Largest Contentful Paint), INP (Interaction to Next Paint), CLS (Cumulative Layout Shift)
  • Overall Performance Score (0–100)
  • Mobile and desktop tracked separately
  • 12-week history stored, older data aggregated to monthly averages

Export

Download the history as CSV or PDF for client reports. The PDF export includes charts you can attach to your monthly client updates.
